{How To} Correctly Measure Your Home's Square Footage

Your home’s square footage is reflected on tax records and for the most part, this is the measurement we as real estate brokers will use to value your home. However, sometimes it will appear that documented square footage is incorrect and we may suspect you have more space than is noted.

It may not seem like a big deal but let’s do the math, if your home’s square footage is 2000sf and there is an additional 110sf of space (about the size of a typical bedroom) and homes in your area are selling for about $250 / per sf, here is how it adds up:

  • 2000 sf x $250 = $500,000

  • 2110 sf x $250 = $527,500

So, tell me now, don’t you agree having a more accurate measurement for your home’s valuation is well worth the time and effort?
